Geology

Short characteristics of the site: Orlice-Sněžník Crystalline, Králický Sněžník Mt.Massif. Huge rock massif, type of block mountain deliminated partly by faults. Springs of the Morava River which drains parts of Czech waters into Black Sea. In the southern parts of this area there is a water divide of European importance, separating drainage areas of the North, Baltic and Black seas. Mountain massif is subdivided into several partial ridges separated by gorges. Many glacial relief features evidencing local glaciation during Pleistocene. The massif consists of crystalline rocks of the Orlice-Sněžník unit, mostly of several types of gneisses, metaquartzites, mica schists, erlans and also crystalline limestones with dolomites. The whole area is protected as a National Nature Reserve.
